Between the Lines: Road to Perfection
Rye football (5-0) travels to Eastchester (2-3) tonight.
Good morning, subscribers. 🏈 It’s Friday, Oct. 10. After back-to-back wins at home, Rye takes its perfect record on the road tonight.
While the Garnet football team travels to Eastchester, another undefeated Rye squad will play under the Friday night lights at Nugent Stadium. The girls soccer team (9-0-3) hosts Ursuline at 7 p.m. after a surprisingly lopsided win against top-ranked Albertus Magnus.
As the weather cools, this edition of “Between the Lines” looks at how the Garnets aim to carry their hot streaks into the postseason.

Preview: Road to Perfection

Rye’s back-to-back home victories followed similar scripts. The Garnets jumped out to a double-digit lead, then briefly let their opponents back in the game before pulling away.
It never hurts to have a senior running back who can ice games down the stretch. Charlie Garnett scored three touchdowns in a 40-28 win against Clarkstown North, then three more in a 42-14 win against Yorktown.
The Rams cut a 22-point deficit to seven in the fourth quarter. The Huskers reduced their 14-point deficit to one. In both instances, the Garnets held strong, shutting out their opponents the rest of the way.
Rye has scored 197 total points, the most in all of Section 1. There aren’t many nits to pick in 40-plus point outings, but state record-holder Dino Garr probably wouldn’t mind seeing his team dominate from start to finish. Tonight, the Garnets get an opportunity against a 2-3 Eastchester team that’s had its ups and downs.
The Eagles have finished with a winning record each of the past three seasons, but have alternated wins and losses this year, most recently following up a 40-0 win against Fox Lane with a 33-14 loss at Mahopac.
Rye beat Eastchester 14-0 last year, the teams’ first meeting since 2021. After tonight’s game, the Garnets wrap up the regular season with Nyack on Oct. 17 and at Harrison on Oct. 25.
Weather Report: The Weather Channel forecast for Friday night in Eastchester is 58 degrees at kickoff with partly cloudy skies. 🌖

⚽ Congrats to Felix Wismer — winner of the Sportech Performer of the Week.
Felix “The Wiz” Wismer scored all four of Rye’s goals in a 4-2 win Saturday at Pleasantville, sending a loud-and-clear message on the previously unbeaten Panthers’ home turf.
On Monday, the junior forward helped push the Garnets’ unbeaten streak to seven games, scoring once again in a 4-1 win against Eastchester. During the streak, which includes six wins and a draw, Rye has outscored opponents 30-6.
Rye and Pleasantville will meet again at 7 p.m. Thursday in Nugent Stadium. The No. 1 seed in the postseason could be on the line.

Game of the Week: Battle of Unbeatens🤜🤛

⚽ Entering Saturday’s game against Rye, Albertus Magnus was undefeated, allowing just one goal all season.
The Garnets won 3-1 to carry an unblemished 9-0-3 record into the final week of the season.
“They were ranked No. 3 in the country, but somehow we were able to throw them off their normal rhythm a bit,” said Rye coach Rich Savage. “They have five seniors on that team who are all Division 1 commits, and a bunch of other really strong players.”
Freshman Harkin Brown scored Rye’s first two goals off assists by junior Julia Carballo and sophomore Ryann O’Donnell. Junior Charlotte Keenan scored to make it 3-0 before Albertus Magnus pulled one back in the final minutes.
“(Senior goalie) Tessa Labovitz made an all-world save right before the end of the first half,” Savage said. “If that shot goes in, the whole game changes. In that game, we learned that we belong on the field with teams like that.”
