Between the Lines: Wins by the Dozen
Rye boys golf off to 12-0 start.
Good morning. 🥍⚾🥎⛳ It’s Friday, May 1. How deep is the Garnet boys golf team?
In their first meeting against Eastchester, Rye coach Pat Romano, “Threw a bunch of new guys in there to see what they can do.”
The Garnets still beat the Eagles by 28 strokes, 196-224. In the rematch Wednesday, Rye won big again, 207-229, to improve to 12-0 on the season.
This edition of “Between the Lines” looks at a deep Garnet golf roster that’s taking aim at perfection.

Rye Golf Winning Matches by the Dozen
Rye’s boys golf team finished the 2025 regular season with a 13-1 record. There’s a chance they could improve upon that mark this year, in large part due to the varsity squad’s top-to-bottom depth.
Junior Derek Bisceglia, who went to state in 2025, has shot the low score or tied for the lead five times this year. Sophomore Graham Erickson has been the leader four times, and another sophomore, Ryan Mascali, three.
Freshman Aidan Lynch shot a 37 to earn medalist honors in the Garnets’ first meeting against Eastchester, and in Wednesday’s rematch, sophomore Ryker Kevorkian took his turn atop the leaderboard with a 38.
“We probably have six guys that can eventually play college golf at some level,” Romano said.
En route to winning the league title last year, the Garnets beat golf powerhouse Scarsdale in the regular season, but were unable to unseat the Raiders in the Section 1 championship. Last week, Rye beat Scarsdale again, 197-210. Bisceglia and Mascali tied for first, and four other Garnets finished within three strokes of the lead.
“That’s tough golf to beat,” Romano said. “A lot of teams might have four good players, we have six good ones every match.”
When the section tournament tees off at the end of this month, there’s reason to believe this team can get over the hump.
“They’re doing team sectionals different this year,” Romano said. “It’s always been nine holes, and anything can happen in nine holes. This year, the format is 18 holes, and I think we have a really good chance.”

Performer of the Week: Jamie Morris

⚾ Congrats to Jamie Morris — winner of the Sportech Performer of the Week.
Senior Jamie Morris went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and five RBIs Wednesday, leading Rye’s offense to an 8-2 win against Suffern.
Senior Nolan Hutson led the game off with a single, then Morris homered to right field to give Rye a 2-0 lead. That was nearly all the scoring the Garnets (10-3) needed, as they shut Suffern (4-8-1) out until the final inning.
Morris was one of six with a multi-hit game, joining Hutson, Lucas London, Jackson Pineault, Harry Ellis, and Luke Ontaneda. The senior third baseman drove in Hutson in the fifth and sixth, and Rye scored five runs in both innings.
Senior Michael Talbott pitched five scoreless innings, striking out five and allowing just six total baserunners.

🥍 Rye boys lacrosse beat Bronxville 11-5 in a battle of Section 1 leaders Tuesday, scoring 45 seconds into the game and never looking back.
The Broncos (8-3), who sit atop the Section 1 Class D standings, were still within striking distance after the first quarter, trailing 3-1. Senior captain Jack Levine and junior Luke Denvir anchored a stingy Garnet defense in front of sophomore keeper Sam LaMonte, who finished with 10 saves for Rye (7-3), the Section 1 Class C front-runners.
Sophomore Will Niejadlik and junior Charlie Brady both had hat tricks, combining for more than half of the Garnets’ goals. Senior Henry Shoemaker led Rye in assists, with five, while Niejadlik and senior Carson Miller each had a pair.
The Garnets led 5-1 at halftime and 7-3 after the third quarter before finishing off their sixth win in the past seven games.
