Breaking: Josh Nathan Elected Rye Mayor
Nathan won with just over 43 percent of the total vote
Democrat Josh Nathan was elected as Rye’s next mayor on Tuesday night, winning a pivotal election in a hotly contested three-way race.
Nathan, 60, captured roughly 43 percent of the vote, outpacing Republican Bill Henderson and independent Rick McCabe, declaring victory shortly after 10 p.m., according to unofficial tallies from the Westchester Board of Elections.
“There’s good stuff to do, we have an amazing community and now we’ll be able to do it without all of the squabbling,” Nathan said during his victory speech at the Rye Bar & Grill. “We’re going to move Rye along into a really beautiful, climate smart, happy future where neighborhoods are protected.”
Nathan then made a prediction: “In the next few months, with a date to be announced, there will be a comprehensive plan,” he said.
The win puts the city’s top elected seat in Democratic hands and expected wins by his City Council running mates gives the mayor-elect a fully aligned Democratic majority beginning in January.
