The No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown was highly anticipated, but ended up being the most lopsided of the teams’ three meetings this season. Rye (16-1-3) handed the Panthers (16-3-1) their first loss of the season on Oct. 4. The teams played to a 1-1 draw in the rematch Oct. 16 at Rye.
When the stakes were highest in Saturday’s section championship, Rye left no doubt which team was best.
The Garnets will face Section 9 champion New Paltz at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Goshen. Rye is one of 12 teams in New York state’s Class A bracket. With a win, the team will play a state quarterfinal game Nov. 8 in Yorktown.
