Rye Boys Upset No. 1 Suffern to Make Section Title Game

Carson Miller and Rye are in the section title game for a second-straight year.
The Rye boys basketball team upset top-seeded Suffern 60-49 on Monday at Westchester County Center to make it back to the Section 1 title game.
The Mounties (20-3) beat Rye by 21 in January, but the Garnets won when it mattered most, getting 19 points from senior Henry Shoemaker, 14 from junior Ben Hudson, and 13 from senior Carson Miller, plus several key contributions off the bench.
Rye (18-5), the tournament’s No. 5 seed, moves on to face No. 3 Clarkstown North (20-3) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the County Center. The Garnets beat the Rams 69-48 on Feb. 11, snapping their 15-game win streak.

Rye’s girls lost to Ossining for the third time Monday afternoon, ending the season one game shy of a return to the Section 1 championship.
The Garnets’ trademark defense, which propelled them from a losing record two seasons ago to back-to-back section semifinal appearances, was on display in the County Center. The Pride didn’t score a single point in the third quarter, but Rye couldn’t muster enough offense on the other end, falling 33-29.
