For the second time in three years, the Rye girls soccer team is New York’s Class A champion.
The Garnets beat Aquinas Institute 4-0 Sunday in Cortland to leave no doubt who the best team in the state is.
In rain, sleet, or snow, the Rye girls delivered all season. After lightning storms delayed Saturday’s 5-0 semifinal win, the Garnets weathered heavy snowfall Sunday to complete an undefeated 22-0-3 campaign.

The Garnet boys came up one game short of giving Rye a sweep of the Class A state soccer titles. East Aurora scored once each half to beat Rye 2-0 Sunday at Middletown.
The Rye boys outscored their previous eight playoff opponents 29-1 before finishing as state runners-up. With section and regional championships, it was a great season for both of Rye’s soccer teams by any measure.
