Rye’s girls and boys basketball teams both advanced to the Section 1 Class AA quarterfinals with wins Saturday at home.

The third-seeded Garnet girls (16-4) beat No. 14 Roosevelt, 68-16, followed by the No. 5 Garnet boys (15-5) eliminating No. 12 Nyack, 43-34.

The defending section champion girls will host a quarterfinal matchup Wednesday against either No. 6 Suffern (11-9) or No. 11 Harrison (7-13), with a return trip to Westchester County Center on the line. The Garnets beat the Huskies twice in December, by 17 and 25 points, during their 12-0 start to the season.

Shortly after the girls’ win, the fifth-seeded Garnet boys rallied to beat Nyack for a seventh win in their past eight games. Next up is a tough road test Wednesday at No. 4 Horace Greeley (16-4).

The Quakers beat the Garnets 68-58, way back on Dec. 18, the third game of the season. Rye has come a long way since that game, which came less than two weeks after several key basketball players won a state football title in Syracuse.

The winner of Greeley-Rye will play in the section semifinals March 2 at the County Center.
