Rye football will play for its first Class A state football championship a week from tonight.
The Garnets beat Cornwall Central 35-7 Friday night at Middletown to match the school’s best single-season record at 13-0. Every win has been by at least two scores.
Rye, winners of the 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2023 Class B state championships, will play in the Class A title game for the first time at 6 p.m. Dec. 5 in Syracuse’s JMA Wireless Dome.

The senior duo of Carson Miller and Henry Shoemaker both broke section records set 10 years ago, connecting on 26- and 35-yard touchdown passes Friday. Miller now has the most single-season passing yards in Section 1 history, and Shoemaker the most receiving yards in section history.
The Garnets’ final opponent will be either Section 5 champion Brighton (10-2) or Section 4 champion Union-Endicott (9-2). Weather delayed the other Class A semifinal until Sunday afternoon.
