Saturday will go down as one of the most successful days in Rye High School sports history … at least until next Saturday.

Rye volleyball won its first section title this morning, while boys and girls soccer both rolled into the Class A state semifinals.

The Garnet volleyball team beat Tappan Zee in four sets (25-22, 25-22, 9-25, 25-22) at Westchester County Center to advance to the state tournament’s sub-regional round Tuesday at Mount St. Mary’s College.

If the spikers win their first-ever state tournament match Tuesday, they’ll move on to the Class A quarterfinals a week from today.

Boys and girls soccer already have postseason dates set for next Saturday after shutting out their Section 11 champion counterparts. The boys blasted John Glenn 5-0 this morning, and the girls blanked Sayville 2-0 this afternoon.

The girls state semifinals and championship are next weekend in Cortland, and the boys title will be decided the same days at Middletown High School.
