The top-seeded Rye boys and girls lacrosse teams both beat John Jay with ease in the Section 1 semifinals, advancing to next week’s Class C section title games.
The Garnet girls won 14-1 on Friday night to make the championship game for the third straight year. They’ll face No. 2 Pelham at 7 p.m. Tuesday, looking to reclaim a section crown after coming up one goal short in overtime last season.
The Rye boys won 11-2 on Saturday, rolling to a 10-0 lead before the fourth quarter. After losing to Somers in last year’s section championship, the Garnets will face the second-seeded Tuskers for the title once again, at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Rye’s baseball team gets a second shot at a section title Sunday after losing 12-0 to Mahopac late Saturday night.
Staring more than three hours late due to extra-inning games before them, first pitch for the Garnets came around 10:30 p.m. Mahopac scored seven runs in the first two innings, all-state senior pitcher Nick Masciarelli struck out 15, and Rye had just two base runners before the game ended at 12:30 a.m.
The good news is, Rye entered the game unbeaten in postseason play, which means it gets a second chance to win the double-elimination bracket. If the Garnets can bounce back against the No. 2 Wolf Pac at 7 p.m. Sunday, they’ll claim the Class AA section crown a year after winning the section’s Class A title.
