Around 8:35 a.m. Tuesday, police received an alert from the Westchester County Real Time Crime Center regarding a reported stolen vehicle entering the City of Rye from the Village of Mamaroneck on Boston Post Road.
Rye police officers located the vehicle, which failed to stop and continued onto Old Post Road before leaving the roadway and becoming disabled in a marshy area near the St. Regis Residences and Playland Access Drive.
Four occupants, two males and two females, fled from the vehicle on foot. Responding Rye police officers apprehended the two female occupants near the disabled vehicle. After a brief search of the surrounding area, officers located a third suspect between the property lines of Summit Health, formerly known as Westmed, and The Osborn retirement community.
A fourth suspect remained at large, prompting the establishment of a perimeter and a coordinated search of the surrounding area. Resources deployed during the search included K-9 teams, drone support, and a Westchester County Police helicopter.
The fourth suspect was subsequently tracked and located by a Westchester County Police Bloodhound and taken into custody without further incident.
One juvenile passenger was released without charges, and three were arrested: Jamar L. Smith, 24, of the Bronx; Kennedie C. Brown, 21, of the Bronx; and Tyvaughn D. Holmes, 25, of Brooklyn.

SPORTS
Rye High School won four state championships in the 2025-26 academic year, doubling the school’s previous single-year record. On Monday, the Garnets received added context about where their all-time great sports season ranks historically.
For the first time, RHS was named winners of the Kerr Cup All-Sport Championship by the New York State Sportswriters Association. The Kerr Cup assigns points based on schools’ postseason finishes across all sports.
Garnet teams captured state titles in football, girls soccer, boys ice hockey, and boys lacrosse, and scored in five other sports to rack up 89 points and fend off Massapequa (79) and Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (62.4).
The winning total ranked second only to Fairport’s 91 points in the 2023-24 school year. The NYSSWA has been awarding the Kerr Cup since 2009. In 2023-24, Rye won two state championships and finished fifth in the state-wide Class A Kerr Cup standings.

COMMUNITY
The Rye Nature Center got a nod from City Council last week to proceed with a giving campaign that will help fund the construction of a new Nature Learning and Visitor Center.
"The Living Legacy campaign has a total goal of $5.9 million. We're pleased to report that 58%, approximately $3.4 million, has already been pledged and secured," said Christine Siller, executive director of the Friends of Rye Nature Center.
While the council had a lengthy discussion about the process of vetting names on buildings, Mayor Josh Nathan assured Siller it's something that can be sorted out without putting the donation campaign at risk.
Three naming opportunities have been claimed, pending approval at a later date: the entrance courtyard and gateway ($500,000), the community garden ($250,000), and courtyard benches ($75,000). The highest-priced naming opportunities are the building exterior ($2 million) and the visitors center ($1 million). Gifts of $15,000 or more will also be recognized on donor walls.

POLICE & FIRE
Rye police announced they rescued eight people from a boat that ran aground off the Long Island coast over the weekend.
The Rye Police Marine Unit responded to Sands Point in North Hempstead after receiving an alert of a vessel in distress that had struck rocks and was filling with water. Sands Point sits a few nautical miles southeast of Rye across the Long Island Sound.
Rye police, with the help of other local emergency response crews, first removed the eight passengers safely before stabilizing the boat to keep it from sinking. One passenger sustained a back injury during the incident, however their current condition remains unclear.
